Studens form KTH School of Architecture in Stockholm makes firstpersonpowergamingarkitekturadaptation of kulturhuset in Half-life, Quake, Unreal Tournament och Doom 3. The exhibition is produced by Palle Torsson and Tor Lindstrand.

Powergaming och arkitektur. Studenter från Arkitekturskolan KTH tänjer ut Kulturhusets arkitektoniska gränser med hjälp av dataspel som Half-life, Quake, Unreal Tournament och Doom 3. Utällningen produceras av Palle Torsson och Tor Lindstrand.

Many of the first person shooter games like Half-life, Doom, Unreal is today shipped with a leveleditor, where you can design your own gameenvironments. In this program you build the scenes; the architecture with applied textures. And you also control the action, sound, light, cameras and the possibilities and limitations of your game.

This year a group of Students at KTH School of Architecture in Stockholm was involved in a workshop with the possibility to explore the relation between 3d-compturegames and architecture, between tool and production.

Architecture becomes in reality sets for actions and present in the world of symbols of representation. Traditionally architecture is construction and price. Can these fundamentals be questioned with the games that gives a more phenomenological approach to achiteture?

Games are not only made to be controlled by the user but also to control her or make her believe in the stereotypes. The games want us to believe in the specific stereotype of the worlds, architecture, sex or race that it is delivering. This is something you should be critical about but at the same time the known plays an inevitable part it the illusion and immersion of the games. That computer games involves contemporary issues like violence and relations to consumer society makes it an interesting artistic tool because it connects to the real.
In the workshop Kulturhuset was used as a casestudie och sex of the projects form the workshop are now exhibited at Kulturhuset.
